Ingredients

  • 1 tsp matcha green tea powder (culinary or ceremonial grade)

  • 1/2 tsp dried culinary lavender (or 1/2 oz lavender simple syrup)

  • 1/4 cup hot water (not boiling, around 175°F/80°C)

  • 3/4 cup milk of choice (dairy or plant-based)

  • 1 tsp honey or maple syrup (optional, to taste)

  • Ice cubes

  • Optional: splash of vanilla extract or frothy milk for topping

Instructions

  • Brew Lavender: If using dried lavender, steep it in the hot water for 3–4 minutes. Strain to remove the buds. (Skip this step if using lavender syrup.)

  • Prepare Matcha: Add matcha powder to a small bowl. Pour in the lavender-infused water (or hot water + lavender syrup) and whisk using a bamboo whisk (chasen) or handheld frother until smooth and frothy.

  • Sweeten (Optional): Stir in honey or maple syrup to taste.

  • Assemble: Fill a tall glass with ice. Pour in the milk.

  • Layer: Slowly pour the prepared lavender matcha over the milk to create a layered effect.

  • Serve: Add a straw and enjoy as-is or give it a quick stir.

Notes

  • For a stronger lavender flavor, increase the steeping time or use more lavender.

  • Oat milk and almond milk both complement the floral and earthy flavors beautifully.

  • For a creamier texture, use frothed milk or a splash of heavy cream.
